Rubio to meet China's Wang on sidelines of ASEAN talks

Marco Rubio is a U.S. Senator from Florida and a prominent figure in American foreign policy, especially on issues related to China. He has often criticized China’s human rights record and growing influence in global affairs. Wang Yi is China’s top diplomat and the Foreign Minister, known for shaping China’s foreign policy and representing Beijing in international negotiations. Rubio may seek a meeting with Wang to address concerns over China's actions in the South China Sea, trade practices, or human rights issues. These matters also closely affect the ASEAN countries, a regional bloc of 10 Southeast Asian nations: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam—many of which have territorial disputes or economic ties with China, making them central to U.S.-China strategic dialogues.
